Thoughts on Solar Plexus—My New Rave

Hello Mavins,

So, most of us have heard Solar Plexus, here are @olubela’s thoughts on them

Before i continue, Does the title of the album have anything to do with Don Jazzy watching the Big Bang theory????

Either you agree with her or not, leave a comment

Enjoy

Code name, Mavin activated.

With an autotuned voice, Tiwa Savage opens the album with the intro about Mavin. If you haven’t lived on Twitter for the last couple of days, you just might have missed the meaning: an individual exceptionally skilled in any field. It’s synonymous with genius and sensation. But I guess you probably already know that it means It’s Don Jazzy Again.

IDJA is said is at the beginning of I’m a Mavin. However, I’m not too pleased with the track. I believe it’s one of the weakest tracks on the album. And since it’s the joint track, I expected more. It should have been the best track in the album.

Then you get to Oma Ga. All I can say is that it’s bloody Tiwa Savage in the building. She did the song justice. Although, I couldn’t help but feel melancholy for the one that shall not be named. I feel that if he had been on the track, it would have been bloody murder. But since Mavin is about moving forward, I shall not dwell on it much. But I am sad that Tiwa only got one track. But as Tiwa sing am, “ta ta din din, ta ta din” i.e. onto the next one.

Yolo so isn’t “you obviously lack originality.” But if you believe say you only live once, Dr. Sid is there to tell you say “so enjoy your life.” This song is sure going to be a club banger. It has that distinct IDJA beat. If you listen careful, you can hear the whole Don Jazzy journey in the beat. CPR is another club banger. I feel this album is more about rejuvenating Sid and CPR is an apt track for Sid. Chocolate wraps everything up. Dr. Sid is the forerunner of Mavin.

“I am on grind, working all the time,” Wande Coal tells you as he yorubalized an igbo tune on See Me Ri. I think that’s all I should say about the track. O wa on point. Forever is a more pumping beat. Forever is someone’s wedding song, just wait and see. It’s right in Wande’s comfort niche, only with a “I’m going to jump up and down as I listen” vibe to it. Sounding like the beginning of Look at Me Now, Wande jumps on Pretty Girls. Pretty Girls is pretty stamped Wande Coal. I wouldn’t have expected anyone else to sing the song.

As for the D’Prince, I do not like Take Banana and Why Are You Over There. The repetition doesn’t soothe my soul but rather irks it. Like someone tweeted, D’Prince isn’t a singer, he is a comedian. Which makes sense and works for him, just as the one that shall not be named is an entertainer and not a musician. But Amarachi is da freaking ish. I am glad say na im end the album because na full stop be the song. I can see the Don Jazzy signature staff in D’Prince’s hand as he dances and performs the song.

My rating of the album is 7.6 with breakdown as follows:

I’m a Marvin = 4/10

Oma Ga = 9/10

Yolo = 10/10

Se Me Ri = 8/10

Take Banana = 4/10

CPR = 9/10

Forever = 9/10

Why Are You Over There = 4/10

Chocolate = 9/10

Pretty Girls = 7/10

Amarachi 11/10 (bonus point)
