“Hey babe, what’s up? This one you’re calling, I am sure you need something. What do you want?”
I said as I picked up my phone to talk to Alex. Baby girl never calls me unless she needs something. Usually she communicates via BBM. “Ahan now. What do you mean by that? I want you to accompany me somewhere this weekend.” At the sound of that, I sat up.
Alex doesn’t ask me to go with her to some place unless she’s sure I need to be there or there’s going to be trouble and she wants me to handle it. “Alright who are you dodging? And don’t tell me it’s nobody. I know you. Where’s this place anyway?”
She laughed and replied,
“My office is hosting a series of talks and Saturday is the last day. Cheryl will be there because you know nau and there will be small chops and alcohol too”. She added that last bit as she knew that would get me.
Cheryl was Alex’s ex who was a very insecure about my relationship with Alex and was always bringing it up. She made a wrong move by telling Alex to choose between both of us and that choice was much too easy for her to make- she obviously chose me. Trying to spite Alex, she started dating Kemi, Alex’s colleague whom she had also had sex with. I think Alex is still hung up on Cheryl but she’ll die before she admits it. Cheryl has tried to make her jealous on several occasions but Alex acts like she doesn’t care. My guess is she wants me to go with her to spite her too which I think will work.
“Alright, I’ll go with you but only because I have no plans this weekend and I don’t want to spend it indoors”.
Saturday arrives and Alex pulls up in front of my house looking like a bag of chips. I’m not looking too bad myself going by Alex’s compliments and the drool in her eyes. Sometimes I can’t help but think that if we didn’t already view each other as sisters, she’d have seduced me and I’d have no doubt fallen hard. We get to the venue and Alex gets me a seat while she goes over to join her colleagues in the planning committee. While we walk to my seat, I notice Cheryl looking like she came there to hawk her wares in this ridiculously inappropriate skimpy outfit. I wondered briefly what Alex saw in her outside of the large boobs. She’s as classless as they come.
Seated beside me was this dangerously handsome fellow who looked and smelled so good, I swooned. As the event began, we were asked to introduce ourselves to the person sitting beside us.
“Hi. I’m Nnanna. I was dragged here by my friend who’s an employee of this company.” He said.
“Hi, I’m Zoe. I was dragged here by my friend who’s an employee of this company.”
We both laughed and made small talk before the first speaker came up to lecture us.
“I don’t know about you but I’m dying for some small chops and some wine”. He says as he drags me to the buffet room during the lunch break.
“Haha. That’s actually why I came here.”
Alex told me there would be small chops and alcohol. Just as well as there’s no way I’d have come with her”. I replied, making sure he knew that Alex was a girl. I wasn’t about to let him think I came with a man and burn my cable. We get our food and just faff around before the next segment continues. While the speakers kept talking, Nnanna and I exchanged numbers and BBM pins so we could gossip a little without making noise and attracting the ire of the other attendees.
At the end of the lecture, because Alex was busy with her colleagues, he offered to take me home. Since it was still early evening, we decided to see a movie first. He dropped me off at home. We ended up having days like that. Him picking me up from work to go see a movie after a driver from the office must have taken my car home. One Friday morning, I woke up to a text from him asking me to pack a few things for the weekend as I was going to spend it at his place…
