Afiya must have gotten up early and gone back to her room. I sighed to myself, but as I prepared to throw back the covers I heard a slight noise, and the bathroom door swung quietly open.

For some reason, I kept my eyes almost closed, pretending to sleep, while watching to see what Afiya would do. If she wanted to leave without waking me, I’d keep pretending to be asleep, so she wouldn’t feel like she had to explain.

She was still naked and looked at me, thinking I was asleep. Then she quietly got back into bed and cuddled up behind me, with her chest and thighs against my back.

What happened next made me very happy. She started rubbing her body gently against me, touching my arms and shoulders, and softly pressing her breasts against my back and her thighs against mine. She wrapped her hands around me, sliding them across my chest while her body caressed me. I felt her nipples harden, and after a few minutes, she began kissing my neck and took my dick in her hand.

I enjoyed this affectionate attack, acting like I was slowly waking up from her touches. When I tried to turn to face her, she gently stopped me, saying “shh”, and rolled me back. I loved feeling her breasts against my back, her breath in my ear, and her hands on my dick. She stroked my dick until I was fully hard, whispering teasingly in my ear.

“Wow, that’s really big! What are you going to do with it? Are you ready to fuck me with it? Are you ready for me?”

I quickly turned over and pulled her into my arms, playfully saying “What do you think?” while she laughed.

She said, more seriously, “Papi, I want you to fuck me from behind, but … could you be a little gentle?”

That sounded like a good idea to me. I got a condom and made her comfortable by putting a couple of pillows under her so she didn’t have to hold herself up too much. I positioned myself behind her but started by gently licking her pussy, savouring her taste and scent. I licked around her thighs, her vaginal lips, and her clitoris. I wasn’t trying to make her cum; I just wanted to give her some pleasure, like she had given me.

I knelt behind her and carefully moved inside her slowly. Once I was all the way in, I stayed there, enjoying how warm and tight she was, and I gently stroked her back. I really loved this position and loved being inside Afi. I couldn’t remember if being inside Chisom felt as good, and at that moment, I didn’t care.

I was happy to take things slow because I wanted the sex to last a while. We adjusted our pace and took breaks while I touched her. After about 20 minutes, we were almost at the point of no return. When I knew she was close, I stroked her clitoris while thrusting in and out of her pussy, speeding up but not too roughly. She had an earth-shaking orgasm and her pussy clenched tightly on my dick, and I came inside her right after, enjoying the moment.

Every time we had sex, it was wonderful. I felt happy and thankful to have such a caring and beautiful partner. Afterwards, I got off her and held her close, and we lay together, enjoying each other’s company for a long time.

**********

That afternoon at the airport, I arrived two hours early, giving me lots of time to think. Saying goodbye to Afiya was a mix of happy and sad feelings. We swapped contacts and shared many heartfelt hugs, knowing it would be a while before we saw each other again. We both knew we weren’t looking for a long-term relationship, just comfort in the moment. Still, the bond we had was genuine, full of warmth and understanding. I felt really lucky to have spent that time with her. She had also invited me to stay at her place whenever I was in Abuja, an offer I fully intended taking her up on.

My time with Afi also changed how I felt about Chisom. Even though I didn’t plan it, I realized I was still attractive to women and capable of being a good and exciting partner. She said her affair had nothing to do with me or our sex life. She claimed she loved me completely and that our sex life was exciting and satisfying for her. It was nice to hear, but hard to believe, especially coming from my wife who just admitted to fucking someone else for eight months.

Afi liked me, wanted to be with me, and was very happy with our time together. I didn’t doubt it, I knew it was real, and it felt great. In a small way, being with Afi helped me get back some of what Chisom’s cheating had taken away from me.

I called Lanre and Adaora in Lagos. Adaora picked up and told me that they had lunch with Chisom on Saturday. She said my wife was feeling really down but they managed to cheer her up a bit.

“I think your relationship with Anita is really bothering her, Kunle,” Adaora said. “In a way, it’s good. She’s very jealous and scared that you’ll fall in love with Anita, or that having a new lover will make it easier for you to leave her.”

“But more than that, her feelings about you and Anita have made her understand how hurt and betrayed you feel. She realizes that you’re probably hurting over her and Chike just like she hurts over you and Anita. It’s clear that you must doubt her love, just like she worries about your love because of Anita. And she sees that it was even worse for you because you were completely in the dark.”

“I don’t know what you’re thinking, Kunle, but I suggest you keep ‘Anita’ around a bit longer. That’s just my advice sha” she laughed. “How are you, anyway?”

“I’m doing pretty well,” I replied. “I’ve had a surprisingly good time at this Abuja meeting, and things are getting better. What you told me about Chisom is good news too. Thanks for everything.”

“You’re welcome, Kunle,” Adaora replied. “Lanre and I would be very happy if you and Chisom could work things out. We both remember how great your marriage was… I’m sorry, Kunle, maybe I shouldn’t say more.”

“It’s okay, Adaora. I know we used to have a great marriage. I don’t think we’ll ever have that again. But maybe we can fix enough of it to make staying married worthwhile.”

We ended our call, and after another minute I called Chisom at home to set up another meeting with her at our house.

*******

When I got to the house on Monday, I wasn’t surprised that Chisom had made everything special. She welcomed me warmly at the door, wearing clothes she knew I liked. I noticed she had set the table in the dining room instead of the kitchen, with candlesticks holding fresh candles and a bottle of our favourite wine.

Gently but firmly I said, “Chisom, I’m not comfortable with what you have in mind. Sorry, but no candlelit dinner with wine tonight.” I carried the wine and the candlesticks back into the kitchen.

She looked upset but didn’t say anything. I went on, “I actually brought some drinks. It’s a flavoured beer I tried in Abuja, and it’s really good. I hope you’ll like it too.” This was a little inside joke for me because Afi was the one who introduced me to the beer.

I said, “Chisom, we still have a few weeks, but we need to decide what we’ll tell the kids when they come back from their vacation if I’m not living here.”

She looked shocked. “Kunle, I really thought … well, I was hoping you’d come back before now.”

“Chisom,” I said firmly, “you cheated on me for EIGHT MONTHS. Do you expect me to just move on from that in a few weeks?”

She didn’t say anything, so I said, “We have until the end of August. If I’m still living in the apartment, we’ll need to explain things to them.”

Chisom still looked very unhappy. Finally, she said, “We both want the same thing, to avoid upsetting the kids if we can, right?”

I nodded and asked, “Chisom, can I ask you something? How did you take care of the kids when you stayed over at his place?”

She could tell from my voice that I was about to ask serious questions, so she wasn’t surprised. She answered, “I should have explained this earlier. They had sleepovers at friends’ houses a couple of times, and most of the time, they stayed with my parents, who loved having them visit. I always had my phone, and there were never any issues. It didn’t happen often, Kunle, just three times.”

I waited a moment and then asked. “Chisom, are you still seeing him?”

“No!” she replied right away, sounding frustrated. “Kunle, I’ve already told you.” She then leaned back and sighed. “Sorry, you’re probably asking why you should trust me. But no, Kunle. I’m telling the truth. I’m done with Chike, and I’m never cheating on you ever again.”

What Chisom didn’t know, because I never told her, was that there were still listening devices recording everything in the house. I planned to check them the next day.

“I don’t know how to fix what I’ve done. Actually, I realize I can’t fully fix it, not even close. But I’m going to try my best. I told you this two weeks ago, Kunle: I’ll do anything to make things better. And I really mean it.”

Chisom looked tired and worried, and she had good reason to be. My mood when I was around her was all over the place, from feeling sorry for her to being extremely angry. I’m sure she could see it in my face. One minute I wanted to comfort her, and the next I imagined throwing her off the bridge. People who say it’s easy to deal with a cheating wife by just kicking her out don’t know what they’re talking about.

They probably haven’t been through it and don’t understand how it feels. Ten years of love, happiness, and trust, and two kids we both love, aren’t nothing. If we didn’t have any kids, it would have been much simpler to deal with, but right now I also had to consider my kids and their stability.

On the other hand, there’s always another side to things. You can’t just go back to a home that your wife has messed up. You can clean it up, air it out, and get new rugs and furniture, but it will take a long time for the bad memory to go away. There’s no point in trying to hurry or pretend it’s not painful.

I snapped out of my thoughts and saw Chisom looking at me. “What’s on your mind, Kunle?”

I sighed. “Actually, some of what you said about Anita and I is true. Having her in my life makes me feel attractive and reminds me that I could leave you and not be alone forever. Being with her helps me deal with the pain of thinking about you and Chike together.”

“And my feelings for her do affect how I feel about you.” (I was thinking of Afi then, but I didn’t tell Chisom.) “It would be a lie to say it didn’t matter, just like I made you admit that your feelings for Chike affected our relationship.”

“I feel comfortable with Anita. We don’t just sleep together; we also talk, cook dinner, and cuddle. She fulfils a big part of my need for closeness, so naturally, I don’t need you as much.”

“Right now, I think it’s good and necessary because I’m still very hurt and angry at you. You can’t fill that need for me, and I can’t let you. But let’s be honest, Chisom, you were close to Chike for months, and that meant you weren’t as close to me. Part of your heart belonged to him, not me.”

As expected, Chisom was crying softly again. “I never loved him, Kunle. I promise. It was never like that.”

We sat in silence for a few minutes.

“Do you still love me, Kunle?” Chisom asked softly, without looking at me.

We stayed quiet for a few more minutes. Then I said, “I’m going to leave now, Chisom. Thanks for dinner. I’ll talk to you soon.”

I reached out to hold her hand, and she gave me a sad but brave smile.

**********

The next day at lunch, I went to the house and checked the recorders I had hidden. I took the recordings back to my apartment and listened to them that evening, worrying that I might find something terrible. I remembered a popular saying: “Trust but Verify.” It made me laugh because I didn’t trust at all, so I really needed to verify everything.

Thankfully, the recordings were all normal. I heard Chisom making work calls or chatting with her parents and Adaora. There were a few calls to her therapist, Dr. Cynthia, about setting up appointments. It didn’t seem like anyone else visited the house.

I found the phone call from Chike on the bedroom recorder that Chisom told me about. It was short and exactly like she said.

“Hello? … Chike, why are you calling? … Listen, we’re done, and I don’t want to talk to you anymore. … Stop! I don’t plan on seeing or talking to you again. Got it? … If you call me again, I’ll have you arrested. Goodbye, Chike!”

Two days later, Chisom called to tell me that Chike had called twice more. “I hung up on him, Kunle, but I don’t like him bothering me,” she said, sounding upset. I told her I’d see her after work.

When I arrived, I said right away, “Chisom, I need to find out more about Chike. I thought he wasn’t a big issue, but I was mistaken.”

“I’ll tell you anything you want to know, Tom,” she said immediately.

“Alright, what’s his full name, where does he live, and where does he work?”

“His name is Chike Maduka. He lives in Beckley Estate, Abule Egba. He works with Providence Bank, the branch in Oba Akran.”

“Good. Please leave him a message tomorrow at home, during the day. Tell him you want him to stop calling the house, and you’ll meet him this Saturday at 4 pm at Pablo’s Place. It’s a lounge at Ikeja, GRA.”

She looked worried. “Why do you want me to do this, Kunle? I don’t want to see him again!”

“Don’t worry, you won’t have any issues with him after that. I’ll be there too,” I set her mind at ease.

The next Saturday, we were both at Pablo’s Place at 4 pm. Chisom sat in a booth, while I was about 30 feet away, sitting at the bar. When Chike came in he went straight to Chisom and tried to kiss her, but she rebuffed the kiss, and he sat down across from her in the booth. I got up and strolled over to them. As I approached I heard him say, “Baby, it’s so good to see you again! I’ve mi…” Then he looked up and saw me.

Chisom got up from the seat, and I easily took her place across from Chike. “Goodbye, Chike,” she said. Then she went back to the car without saying anything else.

Chike looked upset but worried. Although he was 27, he looked younger. He wasn’t very impressive, he was much smaller than I am. I felt even more insulted seeing him.

I looked directly into his eyes without moving. He tried to stare back, but after a minute he couldn’t face me, and he moved his eyes nervously to look around the bar. I placed a call “come in,” I said. A dozen soldiers burst into the lounge, quickly dragging Chike out. I trailed right behind them and headed to my car. I’d already reached out to a close friend of mine, a major in the army, and filled him in on the situation. He had put a plan in motion. All we needed to do was get Chike to the lounge, and then it was up to him and his team to handle the rest.

I walked back to the car and got in with Chisom. “Let’s go home,” I said. She looked at me and smiled, her face showing a mix of embarrassed, relieved, happy, and proud.

Written by Sixtie9ine

If you’re interested in the Oniranu Weekend Brunch, please fill in your location below

Canada – Fill Canadian Form

United Kingdom – Fill UK Form

United States – Fill U.S Form

Buy Oniranu Books on Selar.co from anywhere in the world

Deolu Oniranu · Oniranu Stories

Download Oniranu Comics here

My first conscious thought on awakening was that my arms were empty.
